Elderberries at Chadbourn Baptist Church
On August 22, 1990, twenty-five people met to consider organizing a ministry for the senior adults of Chadbourn, North Carolina. On August 29, the group decided they would meet monthly on the third Tuesday of each month. On September 11, the group approved their official name - “Klondyke Elderberries of Chadbourn Baptist Church.” While there is some flexibility, the group also decided that the beginning age for participation in the senior adult ministry is fifty-five years old. Each month, we begin at 11:30am and conclude around 1:30pm.
While the Elderberries meet monthly at Chadbourn Baptist Church, the ministry of the Elderberries is an ecumenical effort. Senior adults from different denominations and walks of life are welcome for the monthly lunch gathering and fellowship. Each gathering consists of a lunch and program. The Elderberries gather at the church for informative programs, and they also travel to a variety of experiences and performances. Each year, the West Columbus High School Jazz Band performs for the group and at times cook the lunch for a service project. There is also the Annual Fried Chicken Picnic at the home of Keith and Elaine Blake in Lake Waccamaw; you can see a picture of our most recent gathering below. Recently, we traveled to the Palace Theatre at Broadway in Myrtle Beach, SC.
If you are interested in joining us in the ministry of the Klondyke Elderberries, please contact our church office for more information.
